Night To Shine Guest & Volunteer FAQs

Guest FAQs

We can't wait to celebrate our Kings and Queens! There are always questions that come up, so here are a few things you may be wondering about:

What should the prom guest wear?

This is a special night so they can be as dressy (prom dress, suit and tie, tuxedo) or as casual as they want. We just want them to be comfortable and enjoy themselves. We do not have prom dresses or menswear to give or loan out (but we’d suggest checking yard sales, Goodwill, Facebook marketplace, friends and family, etc.).

Who is going to keep my prom guest company all night?

Each guest will have a Radiant buddy that has been background checked to accompany them throughout the night for both safety and fun!

What are the parents/caregivers supposed to do during the event?

Once you and your prom guest have checked in and they have a buddy assigned to them, parents/caregivers will be escorted to our VIP Parent Bistro. This is a quieter space with food, games, conversation, and more while your King or Queen dances the night away! We will have gluten free dinner and dessert options.   Reminder, because of space and budgeting, each prom guest is allowed up to a maximum of 2 parents/caregivers to stay for dinner. After checking in your guest, you also have the option of leaving campus. Just make sure you come back by 8:30pm for the finale. You won’t want to miss the crowning ceremony!

Will there be dinner?

Yes! We will have a catered meal, dessert, and drinks available for both guests and parents/caregivers.

What are the prom guests going to be doing all night?

After check-in, each prom guest will be escorted by their buddy to the glam squad building where they’ll receive a corsage or boutonniere, optional hair/makeup/nails, or a shoeshine. Then they will take a short limo ride around the property and make their red-carpet entrance. After that, the Radiant buddy will help the prom guest decide what activities they want to do in which order they want to do them. Options include: dancing, dinner and dessert buffet, karaoke room, photo booths, indoor yard games, and more. For any guest who needs a quieter space or just a short break, we will have a sensory room with calming activities and low lighting available. A Medical team will be on campus for the duration of the event in case of an emergency. Parents and caregivers are invited to the main building at the end of the night for the crowning of our prom Kings and Queens and the balloon drop.

What if my guest has allergies?

You will be asked on the registration form about any allergies or aversions (food, pet, latex, other). We will also have you note it on your guest’s nametag at check in. Potential food allergy information will be posted at the dinner buffet for all menu items and Radiant buddies will be reminded to double check. We will have some therapy pets on campus but interaction with them is up to each guest’s comfort level and allergy concerns. Please note that there WILL be latex balloons onsite as decorations and for the balloon drop.

Will their be a wheelchair accessible limo?

New this year, we will have a specially decorated wheelchair accessible van for guests. They will travel the same limo route and get dropped off at the red carpet. We would ask that the parent/caregiver assist with loading and unloading the guest prior to enjoying the VIP space.

Volunteer FAQs

Do I have to attend Radiant to volunteer for Night to Shine?

No. Anyone ages 14 and up can volunteer as long as they pre-register (which includes a background check). No walk-up volunteers are permitted the night of the dance for safety and security.

Do I have to come to an orientation beforehand?

Yes . . . if you are a FIRST TIME volunteer, you are REQUIRED to come to an in-person orientation the week prior to the event. We want you to be fully informed about your role, activities in the buildings, and flow of the night so that you can best serve our honored guests. There is a list of training dates and times in the registration for you to select from.
No . . . if you’ve volunteered at Night to Shine AT RADIANT CHURCH in years prior, you do not have to attend the in-person orientation. You will receive a short email prior to the event with some refreshers and updates that I’d highly recommend reading through so you’re ready to serve!

Is childcare provided?

There is no childcare provided for this event.

Is dinner provided for volunteers?

You will need to eat prior to the event as our catering budget is reserved for guests and their families. We will have water available throughout the evening.

What is the dress code for the event?

This is a special night, so we ask that your attire reflects that . . . it is up to you how dressy you want to get!
  • Ladies: At a minimum, we’d suggest dress pants with a blouse (no T-shirts or jeans). Skirts and dresses would be completely appropriate for this night but please dress modestly! You will be doing a lot of moving throughout the night with our guests so please keep in mind the length of your skirt and hem of your neckline.
  • Gentlemen: Please wear dress pants or nice black jeans with a polo or button up shirt (no T-shirts).

What is the time commitment for volunteering at the event?

All volunteers need to be on campus checked in no later than 5pm on Friday February 7th so that you can meet with your team, go over last minute instructions, and be ready to welcome our guests.

What kinds of volunteer positions are needed?

You will be asked in the registration to select your top 2 choices. We will do our best to accommodate your preference, but we cannot guarantee you a specific role.
  • BUDDY - you get to be someone’s ‘tour guide’ and experience all the activities of this very special night! You will accompany a prom guest throughout the evening providing companionship and any assistance they may need during. **Keep in mind that no matter what role you select YOU MAY BE ASSIGNED AS A BUDDY DEPENDING ON NEED. Every prom guest that registers has to have a Radiant buddy. This is the most crucial volunteer role (and honestly the most fun) that must be filled before all others!
  • GREETER - Help welcome guests as they come on to our campus with signs and smiles! This team will double as paparazzi once the event begins.
  • PAPARAZZI - Cheer on our guests as they exit the limo and walk the red carpet. We need enthusiastic and friendly faces to make our guests feel honored and celebrated!
  • GUEST FOOD - Help set up and serve and refill the dinner buffet, dessert bar, and beverage stations throughout the event.
  • VIP PARENT/CAREGIVER BISTRO - Minister to the family members and caretakers of our special guests by escorting them to their own space to enjoy a break for the evening. You will help serve them dinner, refill drink stations, and most importantly, spend time in conversation.
  • SENSORY ROOM - Assist guests who may have become over-stimulated on the dance floor or in other areas of the prom. Help them relax as they enjoy soft music and calming activities.

When will I find out my role for the night?

You will get your team assignment at training, via email, and/or when you check in the night of the event. Please remain flexible, as changes sometimes have to be made last minute to ensure that all teams have adequate support.

We hope this helps give you a better sense of the evening and all the details that we have planned to make this an unforgettable night. If you would like to know more about the Tim Tebow Foundation, visit: https://timtebowfoundation.org.
