Scripture: Matthew 22:34-46

Life is full of priorities.

Work. Family. Finances. Health. Hobbies.

While all of those things matter, Jesus answers a much bigger question in Matthew 22:

What matters most to God?

When a religious expert asked Jesus to name the greatest commandment, His answer wasn’t complicated—but it was life-changing.

If we want to live the life God created us for, our priorities must align with His.

Love God with Your Whole Life

Jesus answered,

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

God isn’t looking for part of your attention.

He wants all of you.

Loving God means more than attending church or checking off a daily devotional. It means making Him the center of your heart, your identity, your thoughts, and your decisions.

When God becomes your greatest priority, every other priority begins to fall into its proper place.

Love People Like Jesus Does

Jesus didn’t stop with one commandment.

He immediately added a second:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Our relationship with God should naturally overflow into the way we treat others.

Real Christian love isn’t limited to people who think like us, vote like us, or agree with us.

It reaches across differences with grace, compassion, and sacrifice.

The world often encourages division.

Jesus calls His followers to be known by love.

Knowing Jesus Changes Everything

After answering the lawyer’s question, Jesus asked one of His own:

“What do you think about the Christ?”

It wasn’t just a theology question.

It was a heart question.

Many people admire Jesus as a great teacher.

But Jesus is far more than that.

He is the promised Messiah, the Son of God, and the Savior of the world.

You can’t fully love God or love others without first knowing who Jesus truly is.

Are Your Priorities in the Right Order?

It’s easy to fill our lives with good things while missing the most important thing.

Jesus reminds us that every believer should build life around three priorities:

  • Love God completely.
  • Love people sacrificially.
  • Know Jesus personally.

When those priorities shape your life, everything else begins to take its proper place.

Key Takeaways

  • Loving people reflects God’s love to the world.
  • Knowing Jesus is essential to true faith.
