Matthew 16 | Radiant Church Surprise AZ

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus is revealed as the fulfillment of every Old Testament promise — the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God.

In Matthew 16, everything turns on one question:

“Who do you say I am?”

At Radiant Church Surprise AZ, this passage reminds us that faith isn’t built on rumors or public opinion. It’s built on personal revelation.

A Question in a World Full of Options

Jesus asked this question in Caesarea Philippi — a place filled with idol worship, false gods, and spiritual confusion. It was known as a center of pagan belief.

In a setting full of options, Jesus looked at His disciples and asked:

Who do people say I am?

They gave the common answers: John the Baptist. Elijah. A prophet.

But then Jesus made it personal:

“Who do YOU say I am?”

That question still confronts us today.

In a world full of philosophies, self-help, shifting truth, and competing religions — who do you say Jesus is?

Information vs. Revelation

It’s possible to have information about Jesus without truly knowing Him.

You can attend church.
You can hear sermons.
You can know Bible stories.

But have you had a revelation of who He really is?

Peter did.

He answered:

“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus told him that truth wasn’t revealed by human logic — it was revealed by the Father.

Real faith begins when information becomes revelation.

The Foundation of the Church

After Peter’s confession, Jesus said:

“On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it.”

The rock wasn’t Peter’s personality. It was Peter’s revelation — that Jesus is the Son of God.

That confession is still the foundation today.

At Radiant Church in Surprise, Arizona, we believe everything stands or falls on who Jesus is. He is not just a good teacher. Not just a prophet. Not just a moral example.

He is Lord.

And when you get that right, everything changes.

Authority and Purpose

Jesus went on to speak about giving “the keys of the kingdom.” This represents authority — not human power, but delegated authority from heaven.

The Church isn’t passive. It’s not fragile. It’s not retreating.

The gates of hell do not advance — gates are defensive. Jesus was saying His Church would move forward, bringing light into darkness.

That’s still true today.

The Most Important Question

Imagine standing in a courtroom with all the evidence presented:

  • Fulfilled prophecy
  • Miracles
  • The cross
  • The empty tomb
  • Transformed lives
  • A Church that has endured persecution and grown for 2,000 years

And then the question comes to you personally:

Who do you say He is?

Your eternity isn’t based on someone else’s faith.
It isn’t based on public opinion.
It’s based on your response.

At Radiant Church Surprise AZ, we believe this is the most important decision anyone will ever make.

So today, consider the question carefully.

Who do you say Jesus is?
